A proposed new motorway service station between Maple Cross and Chalfont St Peter could save J17, claims Chorleywood district councillor Angela Killick.
The site, provisionally called “M25 West”, would be accessed from J17 and J16 by vehicles travelling along the M25. New roads would have to be built to connect the Motorway and the site, which would result in shops and services being provisioned outside the rush hour.
The developers, EXTRA, run the existing Beaconsfield Service Station on the M40.
Angela said: “I am sorry to see any greenbelt disappear. It is early days and is only a proposal at the minute. But, if this gets the go-ahead, it could also put an end to the proposed service station development at J20 near Abbots Langley on the M25.
“The proposed location is in a dip on the west side of the M25, so it will not be seen from Maple Cross or West Hyde, which is a huge relief. In my comments I have suggested that the developers should consider a minibus service from these locations for workers at the new site to reduce traffic around the two nearest junctions.”
