‘IT’S OUTRAGEOUS’: Parking charges in Rickmansworth spark backlash as petition presented at meeting

Residents have expressed frustration following a committee meeting where a petition opposing new parking charges was presented.

The petition, signed by 79 business owners, called for the immediate removal of the Controlled Parking Zone on Moneyhill Parade, Rickmansworth, which they argue is harming trade.

At the General Public Services, Community Safety & Infrastructure Committee meeting on Tuesday, March 18, councillors were allegedly not allowed to speak or challenge Three Rivers District Council’s (TRDC) response.

Green Party councillor Narinder Sian said: “It’s outrageous that councillors were blocked from speaking. If a policy is failing and driving businesses away, why wait 12 months to review it?”

A spokesperson for TRDC said: “Whilst the council’s constitution does not currently allow for a debate to be held on petitions submitted to council meetings, this parking scheme has previously been discussed at committee and its implementation follows a number of public consultations.

“The council carefully considered all the comments received and considered them in the development of the parking scheme.”
