‘IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE’: Public consultation opens on plans for 600 homes on green belt in Croxley

Published on: 11th February 2025   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Uncategorized

Up to 600 homes could be built on green belt land in Croxley.

The proposal, submitted to Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) by RPS Consulting Services on behalf of Richborough, includes a primary school, a mixed-use local centre, a children’s social care home, and green spaces.

Many residents have expressed worries about how the development on land north of Little Green Lane could affect roads and other public services.

Now, locals can have their say as the application is open for public comments. At the time of writing, the proposal has nearly 200 objections and only two comments supporting the plan.

Objections include the “significant impact on house prices”, “irreversible damage to the local environment”, and the fact “the roads cannot take any more traffic”.

On behalf of Richborough, a spokesperson said: “This application includes not just much-needed new homes, including affordable housing, but also green infrastructure and community facilities such as a new primary school and a local centre which includes provision for NHS healthcare services.

“There is a chronic shortage of affordable housing in the Croxley Green area and this application responds to this need. Richborough has conducted a comprehensive pre-application consultation with the local community which included an extensive leaflet consultation, a webinar and digital consultation, and meetings with local stakeholders.

“Richborough will continue to engage with the local community throughout the post-submission planning process to address concerns and communicate the clear benefits of the application.”

Richborough has a damned cheek in wanting to put a car-dependent suburb in the Croxley green belt. How will the residents get to the M25 if traffic in Ricky is heavy? They’ll go straight up to Sarratt and then cut across via North Hill Chorley wood. Much of this would be along single -track roads.
As for the effect on Whippendell Woods which, for the time being, feel so rural…
This isn’t just countryside Richborough wants to build over, it is one of the most picturesque areas of SW Herts. It will ruin the rustic atmosphere of Rousebarn Lane, which is such a local gem.
    Richborough GET LOST !
