Chalfont St Peter resident Luke Willett, aka ‘The Iron Golfer’ has taken on a golf marathon challenge, which will see him run a marathon or more a week from his home to a new golf course.
Luke has been leaving his house each morning around 2 or 3 am and he has so far covered 109 miles, 21 golf courses in four runs and has eight more runs to come.
Speaking about the challenge, he said: “I am a golf professional who is determined to grow the game of golf by showcasing its adventure side and all the positives to getting out and about in mother nature.
“So far my overriding experience has shown me that our golf courses and the wider area are teaming with wildlife, a sight we should all see at least once.
“I can’t tell you how good this challenge has been for my mind. Whilst my body is tired my mind is only just waking up to the many surprises that lay waiting for me in my next run. Anything is possible whether it is running weekly marathons or just seeing your first shooting star. It’s all out there.”
Luke’s most recent marathon was done with clubs in hand and his destination was Sunningdale.
He wrote about the experience on Instagram and said: “This week’s experience for me started to transform when I ran past a group of hotel guests, stood outside on the cobbled streets of Windsor at 4am.
“One guy who noticed me, puffing away on his cigarette just goes ‘hey, look at that chap going for a run with his golf clubs at this hour.’ It made me smirk and think if only they knew I had been running for the past two hours.”
