INSPIRING: Garston Ladies FC hope Women’s World Cup will encourage more young players

Garston Ladies FC are hoping that the Women’s World Cup will inspire more young footballers to join local teams.

The club has pledged to empower young female athletes to reach their full potential, inspiring young athletes to reach the same heights as Ella Toone, Lucy Bronze or Chloe Kelly.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Like us, you’ve probably been watching the 2023 Women’s World Cup and hoping England’s Lionesses can build on their inspirational success at last year’s Euros.

“As the biggest female grassroots club in Hertfordshire, Garston Ladies produces the future generation of female footballers, and we’re always looking for new players to join us.”

On top of this, the club has also joined the Watford Community Lottery, which raises money for good local causes. Garston Ladies are hoping to reach their target of £1,950.

Charity trustee of the club Rich Benett said: “When the opportunity to join the Watford Community Lottery was presented to us, it was a no-brainer.

“The support provided, not only by the team within the council, but also from the platform provider has made it really easy to engage with our membership and recruit supporters using their promotional content on our social media channels. We are only a few weeks in and already one of our supporters has had a £25 win and the club is starting to see revenue generated.

“We set an initial target of 50 supporters and we’ve already hit this so if we maintain this level we will raise £1,200 this year – in real terms, that’s 150 new training balls or three new away kits!”
