A local resident celebrated her 100th birthday last month surrounded by friends and volunteers.
Edna Hawkes has been attending the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) Lunch Club for 17 years. Three times a week, Edna can be found enjoying a group lunch at the club in Mill End Community Centre, as well as the company of volunteers and fellow diners.
She remarked: “I’d be lost without it!”
On Monday, July 10, RVS celebrated Edna’s landmark birthday with a feast.
Edna said: “I never thought I would live 100 years, but I have been fortunate to be blessed with good health and happiness.”
RVS volunteer Diana Barber said: “Edna is a much-loved regular at the RVS Lunch Club, and proudly displayed her birthday card from Their Majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla.
“A glass of sherry and wine was raised in a toast to her longevity, with heartfelt wishes for the good health of all, followed by lunch and cake.”
