A gold medal-winning gymnast visited The Hemel Hempstead School to officially open their new sports hall on Friday, March 17.
Gymnast Ondine Achampong previously studied at the school and achieved “outstanding” A Level results while training for the Olympic Games.
The sports hall will be used to host community organisations, including Storm Basketball Club and K-Gymnastics, as well as for school sporting activities.
Ondine said: “I’m really honoured to have been asked to open the new sports hall, especially after attending The Hemel Hempstead School for seven years and going to PE lessons every week for most of that time. I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at The Hemel Hempstead School who has supported me through my time here because without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Headteacher Neil Hassell said “We are incredibly proud of Ondine and all her fantastic achievements at the World, Commonwealth and European Championships. She is an inspiration to students across the school – hard work, determination and ambition can lead to huge success in gymnastics and in A Levels – while also being a kind, caring and wonderful person too.”
