It was sequins, smiles, and lots of cha-cha-cha as Bushey residents took to the dance floor for a night of fundraising at the Rennie Grove Peace’s Strictly Come Hospice on Friday, January 30.
After 10 weeks of professional dance tuition, 20 amateur pairs performed Charleston or cha-cha routines in front of a star-studded judging panel, including actress Kellie Bright. The 500-strong audience also casted their votes.
Rachael Janson, a visual effects technician, and her partner Maria Hernandez-Humm, a senior project manager, were crowned winners.
Rachael said: “Winning Strictly Come Hospice is an incredible feeling. I’ve enjoyed every minute of this experience, but most of all I’ve loved getting to learn something new with a group of fantastic people.”
Maria added: “We didn’t stop smiling and laughing for the whole journey. The whole experience has given me more self-belief and courage to try different things and get out of my comfort zone.”
The event challenged dancers to raise at least £800 each, and this year an impressive £43,000 was raised for the hospice.
