Residents and staff at Friars Mead care home in Kings Langley, managed by the Abbeyfield Hertfordshire Residential Care Society, have celebrated a special milestone for their housekeeper, Liz Swindles, who has just passed a quarter of a century working there.
Liz is one of six staff who have served at Friars Mead for over 20 years, having begun working part-time when her son started school.
Liz said: “I didn’t think I would be working here 25 years later! I have meet so many interesting people over the years and heard many stories from both residents and staff.
“I met my husband here when he was working as a handy man at Friars Mead. He doesn’t work here anymore, but we have just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary.
“I guess Friars Mead will always mean a little more to me that just a place where I work.
“I can’t say that I will be here in another 25 years, unless it’s as a resident – I can then tell all my stories to the next housekeeper.”
The home’s residents and her colleagues bought Liz some flowers and a gift to celebrate, and she is now enjoying some well-earned annual leave.
Friars Mead is now looking for new members of staff to fill full-time and part-time housekeeping vacancies, as well as carers, kitchen and maintenance roles.
