Northwood student Rebecca Voslinsky has been selected for the Under 18 GB ice hockey team and will be competing in the World Championships this January.
The 14-year-old ice hockey star from St Helen’s School has been undergoing a series of try-outs for Team GB over the past year.
On Monday, December 2, Rebecca received the news she has always dreamed of – that she has earned a place in the national team.
Speaking to NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews, she said: “I can’t quite put it into words. It was such exciting news.”
Rebecca began playing ice hockey at age five when she lived in Toronto, Canada, and continued playing after moving to the UK.
Her dad and two siblings also play ice hockey but she is the first to play at this level.
Rebecca is currently training four times a week, on top of her schooling, in preparation for the World Championships in Latvia next month.
Her favourite aspect of the sport is “the competitiveness and the teamwork – it is never just one person, you are always part of a team”.
St Helen’s took to social media site X to congratulate Rebecca, saying: “An incredible milestone for Rebecca in Year 10! At just 14, she’s made the GB U18 women’s ice hockey team and scored in her first game against Spain!
“We’re so proud of her achievements and can’t wait to see what’s next!”
