HYBRID HUB: Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue hoping to create physical and virtual community space

Published on: 21st June 2020   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue (NPLS), which is also the home of The Northwood Venue, is raising money for a hybrid physical-virtual space, which would allow the community centre to operate in the times of COVID-19.

NPLS is trying to raise £5,000 to get the project up and running – and having raised more than £1,000 already, they have entered the implementation phase of the project.

Before COVID-19, NPLS was a true community hub with a wide range of social and cultural activities for all, irrespective of faith and background. Aside from the use as a synagogue, the building was used extensively by the local community for events that included: parties, classes, exhibitions and adult education.

The classes, run by external instructors or synagogue members, reached adults and children by providing a diverse range of activities.

All of these activities came to a halt in the building when the lockdown started.

This project would give those class providers a physical space and online platform, to enable them to deliver classes simultaneously and smoothly to an audience in the hall and a second audience online – allowing those who will continue to have to shield to also take advantage of the classes.

While the synagogue are investing themselves, they are also hoping for the community’s help.
