‘HUGE SUCCESS’: Watford Film Club launch night hailed as ‘massively exciting’

Lights dimmed, eyes fixed, and the movie rolling, it proved to be the perfect opening evening for Watford Film Club last month.

The launch film of choice was The Ballard of Wallis Island, and for those who were in attendance on Friday, January 30, many commented on it being a “huge success” after tickets all sold out.

In attendance at the launch night, the Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor showed his support and commented: “Huge credit to Jamie and everyone involved in getting this up and running.”

For founder Jamie Parkins, bringing residents together through the love of films is in his own words, a “straightforward mission”, as he plans to continue driving the Watford Film Club to new heights.

Different films from various genres will be shown monthly throughout the year to relish in “the simple joy of watching something brilliant on a big screen”.

Taking place at the Watford Palace Theatre, screenings are typically held in Studio 1 at 7.30pm in an intimate screening space inside the theatre with a bar.

Sharing his joy with WATFORDnews, Jamie said: “Launching Watford Film Club has been massively exciting – watching the first screening sell out so fast was a proper ‘wow’ moment. It’s exactly the kind of community buzz I hope we’d create.”

Following on from launch night, film fanatics can now turn their attention to Friday, February 20, where A Real Pain is set to be shown, with tickets being £6.
