Supporters of a charity based in Bushey raised an impressive £150,000 in 48 hours last month to help a new COVID Health Centre in Gujarat, India.

With over 258,000 COVID deaths in India at the time of writing and millions of lives disrupted, Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur (RSMD) responded quickly to the crisis.

SRMD London centre, based at Falconer Hall, quickly became involved in the funding of the facility’s running costs.

Assessing a desperate need for medical assistance in Gujarat, SRMD quickly set up a COVID Health Centre in ten days, which opened on April 25.

The new Health Centre will serve hundreds of rural districts that have no other access to COVID care facilities.

It has been equipped with 50 beds, ICU and BiPAP machinery, ventilators, high-flow oxygen support and an experienced team of doctors who have provided relief to hundreds of patients.

An urgent fundraising appeal led by the organisation’s youth members was rapidly undertaken in the UK to help fund patient treatment costs and daily operational expenses for the centre.

Within just 48 hours the passionate volunteers were able to secure over £150,000 in donations from across the UK, meeting and exceeding their original target.
