A mother and son duo enjoyed a daring day out as they took part in a skydive for a Watford charity.
Charmain Cox explained that she has always been an adrenaline junkie. When her work’s annual fundraiser came up, she “absolutely” couldn’t help but volunteer. Together with eight colleagues from GSCI Consultants, she agreed to take part in a 10,000ft skydive.
Charmain explained that she was previously overweight but lost six stone in the last year and a half, which allowed her to take on the challenge.
Reflecting on the weeks before the event, Charmain explained: “It was a pure countdown to excitement!”
However, when the time came to do the jump on Saturday, March 22, a dropout from one of her fellow skydivers meant Charmain’s 16-year-old son Connor, who is an adrenaline junkie like his mum, stepped up.
Charmain explained that it was particularly emotional for her, as Connor has recently signed up to join the Royal Marines and so will be away for some time.
Speaking about the experience, Charmain said: “There are honestly no ways of putting it into words; it’s the most free you will ever be in your life. There was an element of fear thinking my baby is in the air, but it was such a huge accomplishment!”
The team has already raised more than £6,000 for West Hertfordshire’s Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s charity Raise, a company that GSCI Consultants work closely with.
Charmain continued: “I have personally seen the benefits throughout the trust, and charities such as Raise have a massive impact for staff, patients and visitors.”
