A healthcare assistant at Watford General Hospital has fallen victim to the coronavirus, the Mail on Sunday has reported this morning.
The paper says John Alagos, 23, is believed to have been the youngest healthcare worker to have died from the disease.
Mr Alagos complained of a headache and high temperature during a night shift on Friday and his mother called paramedics to her home in Watford shortly after he came back.
He’s not thought to have had any underlying health conditions.
Tracey Carter, chief nurse, said staff are fully briefed on the symptoms of COVID-19 and responded to allegations in The Mail on Sunday Mr Alagos had not been allowed to go home.
She added: “We would never expect anyone to remain at work if they were showing these symptoms or indeed were unwell in any way. We have always kept our staff updated on the latest PPE guidance to make sure they have the right level of protection for where they are working.
“John was very popular and will be missed greatly by his colleagues. We cannot comment further on the cause of death at this stage.”
