Standing on a Scottish beach with deadlines to meet for her PGCE application, Myfanwy felt the future pulling her in a different direction.
Growing up in Bushey, she fell in love with drama and the way it “presents you with emotional truth and a humanity that is authentic and real”.
After achieving her dream of studying at the University of Oxford, it was here that Myfanwy was introduced to a drama group.
Speaking to BUSHEYnews, Myfanwy said: “I watched a really good production of Hamlet and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
“I asked a person who was part of the drama club at my college if they were putting on a play. He said no and I asked if I could do it.”
Rallying her fellow students, Myfanwy put on a spectacular candlelit performance of Hamlet.
From there, her love for plays has grown and grown, and led to the group performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
It was during a visit to a beach where her phone was damaged in the water, that she “felt relief” she couldn’t finalise her application for a PGCE course.
In this moment, Myfanwy decided to turn her passion into her career.
She helped to form the Oxford Rep Company, an alumni company of actors, directors, producers, musicians and artists. Over the last few years, the group has performed in National Trust and English Heritage houses, and even castles.
Myfanwy explained: “It has very swiftly gone from something I never saw doing in my life to something I do as a living.
“It’s the closest thing to magic when you’ve got lots of people to put on something you care about.”
The company are returning to Myfanwy’s hometown of Bushey for a performance of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest at Reveley Lodge on Saturday, June 28.
