The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting MP announced on Monday, January 20, that the long-awaited redevelopment of Hillingdon Hospital will go ahead.
Construction is expected to take place from 2025 to 2030 and will create a new state-of-the-art hospital for the residents of Hillingdon.
Lesley Watts, CEO of Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust, said “This is a significant milestone for our hospital and the community we serve.
“The new hospital will provide improved clinical environments, enhanced capacity, and the latest technology to deliver the highest quality of care.
“Our vision is to create a space that not only supports excellent healthcare delivery but also fosters innovation and collaboration. This redevelopment is not just about bricks and mortar; it is about building a brighter future for healthcare in Hillingdon. Together, we are shaping a facility that will stand as a beacon of excellence and care for all.”
This redevelopment comes amongst a number of other similar improvements across the country as part of the government’s New Hospital Programme.
Northwood Hills councillor Jonathan Bianco, Deputy Leader of Hillingdon Council, said: “We’re glad that the government has finally seen sense and decided to move forward with the Hillingdon Hospital redevelopment.
“We’re naturally disappointed with the further delay and missed opportunity to deliver a state-of-the-art hospital as soon as possible, and have concerns about the wider health impacts for our residents, given the funding had been confirmed by the previous government and the further commitment from Wes Streeting that the project would be a priority. However, we will continue to work closely with our NHS colleagues to ensure there are no further delays.”
