A woman travelled thousands of miles to purchase a £1,500 signed, limited edition book from Chorleywood.
American Joan Borreli is a huge fan of The Beatles, and was thrilled to secure a deal for the rare book 1964: Eyes of the Storm from Chorleywood Bookshop.
Publishers Penguin Random House chose a list of stores to receive one of 175 signed copies, with the village bookshop one of the lucky few to be chosen.
Joan decided to cross the Atlantic herself to collect the book, as she was concerned that it might be damaged during shipping.
The Chorleywood Bookshop team welcomed Joan on June 20 with balloons and champagne.
The book features a collection of photos taken by Sir Paul McCartney MBE in 1963 and 1964. It documents the meteoric early rise of The Beatles, with pictures from Liverpool, London, Paris, New York, Washington DC and Miami.
Chorleywood Bookshop co-owner Sheryl Shurville said: “We were thrilled to be involved in this very special opportunity featuring this landmark book. Joan is a huge fan of The Beatles and Paul McCartney, and was one of 900 people at a launch held by Sir Paul to promote the book.
“When Joan opened the book, she saw it was number 20 of 175 and she was near to tears!”
In the foreword to the book, Sir Paul McCartney writes: “Looking at these photos now, decades after they were taken, I find there’s a sort of innocence about them. But I like to think I wouldn’t take them any differently today.”
