HERTSMERE CALLS FOR A CHANGE TO ELECTIONS

Published on: 5th June 2014   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category:

Hertsmere Borough CouncillorsHertsmere Council are asking residents to vote on whether they believe the electoral system should be changed. Hertsmere currently elect councillors by thirds, as most wards in Hertsmere have three councillors it means there are elections three out of every four years. The idea has been proposed that a whole council election be put in place, where councillors are elected every four years in a bid to save the council £160,000. The new elections would also mean less time campaigning every year and more time to improve things and with regular poor turnout of voters hopefully more people would become more interested in the local council. In opposition the current election by thirds has been established for years and gives people the opportunity to change who they want to represent the area.
