Yollanda Musa, who is from Leverstock Green, is in the semi-finals of Miss Swimsuit UK and wants to inspire women to get out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves.
Yollanda, who is a business support officer for Herts County Council, has battled with body confidence after always comparing herself to naturally curvy girls.
She said: “I wanted to challenge myself which I like to do in most aspects of life. For example I was never that good at maths in school but I chose an economics degree to challenge myself.
“I have always lacked confidence from a young age as I always compared myself to the naturally curvy girls.
“I want to portray the message, to never give up and be confident in your own skin.”
The 27-year-old part time model was also nominated for Social Media Influencer of the Year at The 2018 Black Awards.
To fulfil her dream of being a role model in the industry, Yollanda has an online blog documenting her journey into the industry while giving outsiders a realistic view of modelling and fashion shows.
She explained: “I want to use the competition and my online blog to excel my career in the fitness industry but also to be an ambassador for women who struggle with body confidence.”
Yollanda is looking forward to the semi-finals which are taking place later this month but says it is a personal achievement getting this far in the competition.
She explained: “Getting into the semi-finals in an achievement in itself, it would be the icing on the cake to be crowned Miss Swimsuit UK.
“The competition is good as it calls for people to be confident and to be you. I am excited for the day as my family and friends will be there which means the world to me. I want to make them proud.”
