HELPING OUT: Plans submitted to set up community fridge in Chalfont St Giles

Published on: 8th April 2021   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

Plans have been submitted to have a community fridge set up in Chalfont St Giles.

All Together Community is looking to set up a container in Blizzards Yard car park which would be used for the storage and distribution of food parcels.

Louise Chamberlain who set up All Together Community sent out the plans to Bucks County Council and wrote: “Our organisation is a not-for-profit community interest company that has been providing food parcels to local people.

“All of the people we support are struggling financially, mostly due to the impact of COVID-19.

“We have been looking at ways of providing more long-term food support and ways we can support Buckinghamshire Council’s environment and climate change policies.

“We would like to open a community fridge. This would be held within a container within Blizzards Yard car park.

“We would collect surplus food from local supermarkets, store in fridges in our container and then open for local people to come and take what they need for free.

“As well as benefiting the community by redistributing food, we will also be stopping large amounts of food from going to landfill, reducing Buckinghamshire’s waste.”

The proposal also mentions that the site is currently unused and it used to be a recycling centre.

A decision is set to be made by April 27.
