HEARTBROKEN: Tributes paid to ‘well-respected’ businessman from Bushey

Published on: 19th December 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Bushey garage closed its doors for 24 hours last month in respect for the loss of one of its own.

Family-run Bushey Hall Garage in Bushey Hall Drive, headed up by Dawn and Roger Ayres, closed for the day on Wednesday, December 18, for the funeral of their eldest son Jonathan (Jon), who passed away suddenly from cancer.

Jon had worked for the company for 21 years and headed up the panel shop side of the business, bringing vehicles back in line. Courses he attended were instrumental in enabling Bushey Hall to gain its first manufacturers approval in bodyshop repairs.

Well-respected and liked by those he worked with as well as suppliers and customers alike, Jon will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life service was held at West Herts Crematorium, followed by a wake at the Metropolitan Club in Bushey. Both were well attended. Jon’s coffin was carried into the crematorium by friends he made years before at Cassiobury Junior School and Watford Grammar School for Boys and whose friendship remained strong. A long-standing Liverpool FC supporter, all wore Liverpool shirts and the opening music was Liverpool’s You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Moving tributes were given by family and friends as well as Jon’s long-term girlfriend, Lucy Godsave. Many, including college friend Chris Portwain, visited Jon while in hospital and provided tremendous support to both Jon and family members present.
