Amersham locals have taken to social media to share their devastation over the closure of Gilbey’s Restaurant in Old Amersham on Sunday, November 5.
On Friday, October 13, owner Lin Gilbey announced that the beloved restaurant would close after 35 years of serving the local community. Loyal customers were invited to book a final roast before the restaurant’s closure.
One resident said: “This was my favourite restaurant. Thank you for all the lovely celebrations that my family and I have had over the past 27 years.”
Another shared: “We have spent many anniversaries there. It will be sorely missed.”
Councillor Mimi Harker MBE, vice chairman of Buckinghamshire Council, spoke of the town’s collective “heartbreak and heartache” at the closure of the restaurant.
Lin’s other Gilbey’s restaurant on Eton High Street will remain open.
