HEALTH HIGHS: New high-tech breast unit at Mount Vernon opens

Published on: 2nd February 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A new unit has recently opened at Northwood’s Mount Vernon Hospital for women requiring breast imaging.

The £800,000 suite features brand new equipment purchased by the NHS centrally.

Sherri Asaad, Breast Imaging Superintendent, said: “Using the latest technology to deliver the very best care to our patients is our priority.

“We are, therefore, incredibly proud that our unit is home to the latest imaging system and that we can deliver the benefits to our patients using the service, such as improvement in the early detection of breast cancer, especially for younger women or those with dense breasts.

“We are confident this will also decrease the number of women called back for additional tests, for findings that are not cancers.”

“I am proud of the hard work by everyone involved and like to thank all for making this project such a success.”

One of most impressive pieces of new technology is the 3-D Hologic mammography system, which provides patients with high quality 2D and 3D images for radiologists. It also proves a far more comfortable experience for patients that previously.

The suite also contains a Hologic Brevera breast biopsy machine, which delivers detailed information at the point of care, as well as state of the art imaging and verification at the time of biopsy.
