HEADS OF STATE: Residents warned for future road closures ahead of NATO meeting

Published on: 14th November 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

A major meeting of heads of state is set to be held at the Grove Hotel in Chandler’s Cross on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.

The event, which is part of the NATO 70th Anniversary London Summit, is expected to attract worldwide media interest.

Hertfordshire Constabulary and the Metropolitan Police Service have been liaising with the hotel and partner agencies for some considerable time and want to reassure the community that the event will be policed proportionately.

Whilst it is inevitable that such a high-profile event will cause some disruption, we aim to ensure that any impact on the local residents is kept to an absolute minimum and will be working closely with our partners to achieve this.

We are sharing information ahead of the event in order to allow residents the time to plan accordingly and mitigate the impact it may have on their day to day lives.

Local Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Watford and Three Rivers will be visiting the affected residents, businesses and organisations within the road closures, as well as those bordering them, to discuss individual needs.

There will be several road closures in place for the event’s duration:

  • Grove Mill Lane will be closed 6am on Monday, December 2 to 8pm on Wednesday, December 4
  • Fir Tree Hill and Langleybury Lane will be closed from 6am on Tuesday, December 3 to 8pm on Wednesday, December 4
  • Hempstead Road (from Hunton Bridge roundabout to Courtlands Drive junction) will be closed from 11pm on Tuesday, December 3 to 8pm on Wednesday, December 4
  • The Grand Union Canal and its towpath will also be closed to both narrowboats and pedestrians from 7pm on Monday, December 2 to 8pm on Wednesday, December 4. The closure will run from Lock 74 to Lock 76.

All rights of way across the hotel site will be closed between 4pm on Tuesday, December 3 to Wednesday, December 4.

All public access will be prohibited.

Increased traffic congestion is anticipated for the duration of the event therefore residents and visitors are asked to consider their plans, such as finding alternative means of transport or working from home.

The use of and flying of drone equipment in the vicinity of The Grove Hotel will also be prohibited for the duration of the event.

Watford Chief Inspector Matt Phillips said: “Whilst it is inevitable that such a high profile event will cause some disruption, we aim to ensure that any impact on the local residents and businesses is kept to an absolute minimum and are working closely with our partners to achieve this.

“We are now in a position to share information ahead of the event in order to allow the community the time to plan accordingly and mitigate the impact it may have on their day to day lives.“Increased traffic congestion is anticipated therefore residents and visitors are asked to consider their plans, such as finding alternative means of transport or working from home.”
