A school in Amersham has launched an exciting year of celebration and fundraising to mark its 150th anniversary.

Over the next 12 months, St Mary’s Church of England School staff will not only look back on their esteemed history, but forward to the future.

The school hopes to secure Eco School status, create a new fruit orchard of rare and heritage varieties to increase the biodiversity of Old Amersham, and restore the historic school bell, amongst many other projects.

The school also plans to crowd-source a time capsule to showcase Amersham in 2023, which will be buried at St Mary’s with instructions to open again in 2173.

The school governors, in partnership with Friends of St Mary’s, have also committed to an ambitious fundraising target of £150,000 for the year.

Chair of governors Jacqui Rouse said: “St Mary’s was originally funded in large part by community donations. Therefore, we are keen to create as many new and fun ways for the historic links between the school and the people of Amersham to be deepened for the benefit of the whole town community.”
