A charity worker from Pinner has been spared jail after pleading guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Gordon Lane, 66, is the founder of North Harrow Stroke Group, a volunteer organisation that provides support for those recovering from a stroke.
During the trial, the court saw documents and heard of how Lane engaged with a decoy child, spoke inappropriately about himself and what he would do with the child, masturbated, and offered to buy things for the child.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Following a covert operation launched by the Met Police in January 2023, Gordon Lane received a custodial sentence of six months suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child at the Central Criminal Court on January 12.”
