Most music artists dream of winning a Grammy, but Jacob Collier proves he is marching to the beat of his own drum as he becomes the first British artist to win the award for each of his first five studio albums.

Having studied jazz piano, composition and voice at The Purcell School in Bushey, Jacob has earned a Grammy Award for Djesse Vol 4, cementing him in the industry’s hall of fame.

The legendary music artist received three Grammy nominations for his latest album, including Album of the Year and Best Global Music Performance for A Rock Somewhere.

He took home the award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella for his rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water. Jacob completely reimagined the Simon and Garfunkel hit with popstars John Legend and Tori Kelly.

Drumming up more and more attention, Jacob currently has a sensational seven Grammys and 15 nominations.

In a speech, he said: “What a moment. This is crazy. This is really cool. Simon and Garfunkel – legends they are – thank you for this absolute treasure of an immortal song and I hope one day you will forgive me for the illegal and irresponsible chord choices that I distribute amongst this arrangement.”

Speaking to BUSHEYnews, the principal of The Purcell School Paul Bambrough said: “We are immensely proud to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Jacob Collier, an alumnus of The Purcell School.

“His groundbreaking success as the first British artist to win a Grammy for each of his first five albums is truly inspirational. It is always wonderful to see our former students reach such remarkable heights in their musical journeys.

“We congratulate Jacob on this important milestone and look forward to seeing his continued impact on the world of music.”
