New plans have been put forward that could see either 675 or 300 new homes built on land east of Green Street in Chorleywood.
Put forward by Chiltern Hills Golf Club and their agents Savills, two applications have recently been delivered to Three Rivers District Council (TRDC).
In March last year, two previous applications from the same developers for either 300 or 800 homes on the same site were both rejected by the council.
TRDC’s decision to reject the plans states: “The proposed development would appear as an urbanising and uncharacteristic development that would not conserve and enhance the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, resulting in actual harm to the special landscape character.”
Much like the previous plans, these new ones have caused consternation amongst villagers.
One comment on the application reads: “I object to the planning permission and everything it stands for. Chorleywood will not be able to cope with 300-plus houses. There are roads, plumbing, doctors, dentists, schools and electricity to think about.”
A spokesperson for Savills said: “The proposals will bring new life to the local town centre, sports and community facilities.
“We have worked to address the reasons for refusal from the previous application and the schemes will deliver a number of benefits, including up to 50 per cent affordable housing, land for a new primary school, new public open space, new high-quality sporting and community facilities, a wide range of economic benefits, and public sector revenue.
“There is also a critical need for housing. These applications provide an opportunity to provide houses in an accessible location through a developer that has worked with local people to deliver real community benefits.”
