Leaving an above par legacy, Grim’s Dyke Golf Club captain Colin Mrytle has stepped down from the role after raising more than £8,000 for Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care.
When he was elected last year, Colin decided his chosen charity for the year would be the hospice, where “several friends and family of friends have been well treated”.
Throughout the year, Colin has hosted a range of fundraising events, including an auction of golf vouchers and memorabilia donated by local clubs in Middlesex and Hertfordshire.
A person from the hospice also held a talk in which they explained the difference the funds would make to patients
Speaking to Pinnernews, Colin said: “The money it takes to run is really frightening. The hospice is always in need of funds and equipment, but it would be really nice if some of the money could help extend capacity.
“My gratitude to club members is enormous. The money may be in my name, but it all comes from their generosity.”
He has now taken on the role of director and chairman of the club’s greens committee, which looks after the course and competitions.
On Sunday, May 4, Colin passed the reins to keen golfer and new captain Dean Cooper, whose chosen charity will be Macmillan Cancer Support.
Colin said: “It’s been a great privilege. I have been to many sporting clubs, but Grim’s Dyke is one of the most welcoming places.
“I have known Dean for a long time and it’s great he has chosen Macmillan.”
