GREAT NEWS: Funding boost for charities and community groups in Three Rivers and Watford

Published on: 15th September 2021   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

Community groups and voluntary organisations across Three Rivers and Watford that have been supporting people during the pandemic could be eligible for a funding boost.

The Covid Community Grant Fund has been made available in recognition of the vital role community and voluntary organisations in Three Rivers and Watford played in supporting the pandemic response: from organising food deliveries and offering befriending services to providing practical support and giving advice to residents with COVID-19.

Local organisations can apply for grants up to £7,500. The grant scheme aims to help cover additional costs organisations are experiencing due to the increasing demand for services at a time when fundraising has been disrupted.

Three Rivers District Council and Watford Borough Council are distributing the £200,000 grant scheme after a successful bid to Hertfordshire County Council’s Health Protection Board.

Cllr Sarah Nelmes, leader of Three Rivers District Council, said: “Over the past 18 months we have seen so many voluntary groups step up to support their communities when they needed it the most.

“We recognise that this has stretched many of their finances, so we are so pleased to have been successful in securing this funding from the Health Protection Board. This grant scheme can help our local groups remain viable and sustainable.”

Peter Taylor, Mayor of Watford Borough Council, said: “I’m incredibly proud to be launching this fund along with our friends at Three Rivers. Hertfordshire’s charities have played a really important role during the last 18 months, and have shown great determination during this period.

“While many traditional methods of funding have been unavailable, they have adapted and gone to extraordinary lengths to provide their vital services.”

The Covid Community Grant Fund is being managed by Watford & Three Rivers Trust.

Application forms and details of the criteria are available from the Trust’s website at w3rt.org/page/community_funds

The grant scheme will be open until March 31, 2022, or until funding is exhausted.
