Ruislip Running Club (RRC) are hosting a Couch to 5K (C25K) programme to help those who have never run before or want to get started again.
The programme offers a nine-week plan for beginners, starting with running for a minute at a time until participants can run 5km non-stop.
Charlotte Bradley, the chair of RRC, told NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews: “Whilst everyone is different, and some people really thrive on the focus of solo training, many of us from C25K onwards find it much easier to stay focused and motivated when training with a group. Something as simple as having a set time and route can make the difference between lacing up our shoes or spending a night on the sofa.
“A bit of camaraderie makes many challenges easier and C25K is no different – within the club, a lot of long-standing friendships have started within C25K.”
Members have gone on to help at the London Marathon and local parkruns, as well as set up stalls for the Ruislip Manor Fun Days.
She added: “This year, we saw a record number of our members complete the London Marathon, with many others at Manchester on the same day, so we want to continue to support these members but also stay true to our roots and support our social runners, C25k-ers as well.
“Our mission statement isn’t about being an elite club; it’s about supporting runners at all levels and building great friendships through that.”
