A Pinner schoolboy who was recently forced to self-isolate used the time to help educate his peers online.
Seven-year-old Rishi Kanuga, who goes to West Lodge Primary School, had a high temperature last month, forcing him to self-isolate for around a week – initially while his school was still open.
Instead of complaining, Rishi decided to be proactive and record educational English videos to upload on YouTube, as well as writing a guide to staying occupied during lockdown.
He initially asked his mum for help with the videos, but quickly taught himself how to access PowerPoint for information, create the videos and then upload them.
His mum Ingrid said: “Rishi was very positive – he really got on with it and kept himself busy by making videos – he’s very creative when it comes to coding and computers. We had to keep his younger sister off school too, so in that sense it was a bit more of a struggle, but we made it work.
“It was a decision we had to make (to isolate) because we’d read about what was happening in China and Italy and had to think of the older generation.
“Once we explained to the children that going out would put their grandparents in danger and other elderly people, they were understanding and accepted it. We all have to put those people first.”
Rishi initially created the YouTube channel in February after making a book called 20 Happies online, which he wanted to read out in a video.
