A teenager’s craft project that uses empty gin bottles has raised more than £300 for charity.
Chorleywood resident Marina, 17, wanted to help Mission EmployAble and came up with the idea of making attractive flex-free lamps from recycled spirits bottles, to sell to visitors to the charity’s Bluebell Walk on May 2 and 3.
A quick email to her parents’ friends yielded a supply of coloured and unusually shaped gin and vodka bottles, which are perfect for decorative table lamps to create indoor mood lighting and for brightening up an evening barbecue.
Marina hoped to sell six lamps at the Bluebell Walk and so was delighted when she sold more than 20 and also took several pre-paid orders for more lamps.
Marina is keen to continue her lamp-making in aid of Mission EmployAble and hopes that her friends who are over 18 will soon finish their spirit bottles and give her their empties.
