An actress and filmmaker has taken critics by storm with her award-winning fifth movie about a Mormon couple in a polyamorous relationship.
Former Tring Park School of Performing Arts student Louisa Connolly-Burnham first hit the screens in the CBBC series Wolflblood and Nickelodeon’s House of Anubis. It was during this time that Louisa became interested in filmmaking.
Talking to TRINGnews, she said: “I always loved writing, even before I went to Tring Park, and I always enjoyed being on set.
“Being an actor means a lot of waiting around for the phone to ring, so I decided to start writing characters that I wanted to play.”
Louisa’s latest short film, Sister Wives, is her fifth movie. It stars Louisa alongside BAFTA Rising Star Award winner Mia Mckenna-Bruce as two wives in a polyamorous relationship with Downton Abbey’s Michael Fox.
The film has been nominated for several accolades, including being longlisted for the BAFTA British Short Film award. On Monday, January 27, Louisa announced that she had won Best British Director at the British Short Film Awards for the project.
Louisa said: “I’m a bisexual filmmaker and wanted to make a dent in queer cinema. It’s the kind of film I would like to watch and comments on things I’m passionate about.
“It’s always wonderful to be nominated or recognised; I still feel relatively new to this even though it’s my fifth film. Throughout my career, I’ve been known more as an actress, so to be recognised as a director is nice!”
Louisa is now working on developing Sister Wives into a feature film. You can watch the short film at www.channel4.com/programmes/sister-wives
