GRASSBOOTS: Sports teams encouraged to recycle equipment with new app

Published on: 20th November 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Rickmansworth resident has launched a new app to encourage local sports teams to recycle pre-loved sportswear and equipment in a way that also raises money for their clubs.

Grassboots, the brainchild of Mark Lycett, Jason Westhorpe and Steven Nuttall, is an online marketplace that allows team members to donate their unwanted items, and also to buy used items at a cheaper price than retail.

Jason has emphasised the benefits the app could have for teams.

He said: “People can declutter and recycle sportswear and equipment by donating them to Grassboots and users can buy great value sports goods for a fraction of high street prices.

“There is also very little work required from the club other than to occasionally remind their members that this facility exists, and the club will receive the majority of revenue generated from sales.”

Several local clubs have already signed up, including Chorleywood Common Youth FC, Croxley Green FC and Evergreen FC, with the team already speaking to other clubs to get them on board.

Grassboots is available to download on Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store.
