GOOD NOSH: Kol Chai Synagogue in Pinner launches community recipe book

Published on: 1st July 2021   |   By: Lizzie Ellis   |   Category: Uncategorized

Kol Chai (KC) Synagogue in Pinner launched its second recipe book, Good Nosh Guide, in June, with sales contributing to refurbishing the building and expanding the kitchen and a charity donation to the Jewish Bereavement Counselling Service.

The book contains over 90 recipes and reflects a huge diversity of family heritage and tradition, from South African fish balls to pie from Provence or Austrian Vanilla Kipferl, there is inspiration for everyday meals, Shabbat and festivals.

The Good Nosh Guide includes celebrity contributions, with recipes from renowned chef Adam Handling, two members of cabaret group Fascinating Aïda and professional cake maker Julia May.

The first edition was published 17 years ago with a foreword by Rabbi Lionel Blue. This new 2021 book includes healthy eating tips from KC member and nutritionist Linda Munster, and it’s illustrated with paintings and drawings from children in the community. The cover illustration was painted by Michael Cahillane, Artist and Building Manager at KC.

KC’s Rabbi Naomi Goldman said: “Food is at the heart of Jewish Culture. 2020-21 has been a time when the emotional value of sharing a meal with friends or family has become that much clearer through its temporary loss. Truly a community that eats together stays together!”
