Berkhamsted Rotary Club distributed funds to a plethora of local charities throughout July after another successful year of fundraising events.
The club has allocated funds to a number of good causes in the surrounding areas after raising more than £50,000 in the last 12 months. In the town itself, they have supported the Berkhamsted and Tring Ukraine Hosting Network, 1st Berkhamsted Scouts, community space Open Door, and teenage suicide prevention charity Hector’s House.
Eric Pillinger, who heads the Rotary’s community services committee, said: “We particularly like to sponsor small charities where they’re a very enthusiastic, very committed people putting a lot of effort into it.
“Our members here are very keen on supporting children and anything specialist that may not get a lot of a lot of popular support.”
The Rotary decided to allocate £250 to One Impossible Thing (OIT), a charity which has distributed 2,383 pairs of preloved sports shoes for free to adults and children in need.
Fiona Foulkes, OIT chair of trustees, said: “The Good Childhood Report 2022 found that 27 per cent of parents and carers cannot afford PE kit for their children. Our aim is to help these families so that every child can unlock their sporting potential.
“We really appreciate Berkhamsted Rotary Club in helping us on our way to achieving these aims.”
A donation was also made to homelessness charity DENS to support its Holiday Hunger campaign, which helps support families struggling to pay for food over the summer holidays.
DENS community fundraiser Charlotte McCarthy said: “Thank you all at Berkhamsted Rotary Club for your kind gift of £500 towards our foodbank. Your support is much appreciated, particularly as the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact the most vulnerable in our community.”
