GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY: Rickmansworth care service celebrates 50 years- and needs more volunteers

Published on: 9th November 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Rickmansworth Care is celebrating 50 years of operation- but it is also looking for new volunteers to help keep the service ongoing.

First set up in 1972, it’s been providing help to people all over Rickmansworth, Mill End, Maple Cross and Croxley Green ever since. In its early days it provided aid with nearly everything- even wallpapering- but now focuses on helping people with limited mobility get around.

This is an integral provision for some people, especially those who need to get to hospital appointments as they go further and further afield.

As an entirely voluntary service that comes free of charge, the charity relies on donations from those who use it and the hard work and tenacity of its volunteer workforce.

A spokesperson for Rickmansworth Care said: “As we look forward to another fifty years serving the community, Ricky Care is in real need of more volunteers – both as drivers and duty officers who take the calls.

“Drivers need only do as much as they can or wish – typically it could be one lift a week or one lift a month or less if that works for the volunteer. Our drivers can claim expenses of 45p per mile. Duty Officers do one or two mornings a month answering the phone to clients requesting lifts.”

Anyone interested in joining can email rickmansworthcare@gmail.com or call the care phone on 07935 269144 and leave a message for Rose.
