GIVING BACK: Former stuntman aims to raise £100,000 to support Stanmore hospital

A former stuntman who was left disabled following an accident on a film set is aiming to raise £100,000 for the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore.

RNOH charity ambassador David Holmes spent six months at the hospital’s Spinal Cord Injury Centre (SCIC) in 2009 after breaking his neck while filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

He has now set a fundraising goal of £100,000 for the refurbishment of the day room at the SCIC.

He said: “The main reason I am able to be here now is due to the expert team at the RNOH.

“The SCIC, where I stayed, is dedicated to comprehensive rehabilitation for people like me who experienced life-changing spinal cord injuries. The centre needs funds for its outdated day room to create a space that enhances the wellbeing of patients, promotes community, and elevates morale during recovery.”

The SCIC at RNOH sees approximately 250 patients each year. A newly refurbished, multipurpose and accessible day room would enhance the wellbeing of patients, as well as providing them with a non-clinical space to socialise with other patients, friends and family.

A spokesperson for the RNOH said: “Be part of this transformation – your contribution is not just a donation; it’s an investment in the futures of individuals facing life-changing spinal cord injuries.”

David added: “Thank you so much for helping to support the hospital that rebuilds lives like mine.”
