Pumpkin’s Wildlife Hospital in Rickmansworth is appealing for more volunteers ahead of the busy spring and summer months.
At present, the site at Stockers Farm has around 100 volunteers who run the service. From vets to receptionists, the hospital is run entirely by unpaid local people who are passionate about wildlife.
However, as the hospital continues to see high numbers of patients, there is a need for more volunteers.
Trustee Sarah Arnold said: “We have often found that we are full and have had to signpost to other centres, meaning there is such a need in the area.
“It’s really rewarding to see the wildlife and to make a difference in your environment. You get to give back to your community.”
Sarah spoke about the hospital’s rewarding work with hedgehogs, who are on the red list of endangered animals.
She added: “Knowing that our work has been able to help make sure hedgehogs are still in existence is so important.”
