A leisure centre in St Albans is celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by staging a flash mob around the city on a secret day.
Westminster Lodge wants to encourage individuals of all abilities to participate in a flash mob, which occurs when a group of people bursts into a dance routine in a public place and surprise the unsuspecting public.
The flash mob is part of the centre’s ‘Active Communities’ programme, which includes programmes for as many people in the community as possible, from all age groups and all abilities.
On Thursdays from 8.10pm-9.10pm, the centre hosts a choreographed ‘through the decades’ class. The Flash Mob sessions began on March 31 and will last at least nine weeks.
Kirsty Jones, Active Communities Manager at Westminster Lodge, says: “We really want as many local people as possible to get involved in this, to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and also to put on a fantastic live event in St Albans this summer.”
