A young athlete from Garston is on the plane to the World Championships in Beijing later this year after he recently smashed his personal best by a full two seconds at the recent Anniversary Games in London. Kyle Langford, 19, who trains with the Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, came seventh in the 800m at the Olympic Park in London recording a time of 1:45.78, the fastest time by a British junior since 1986. In a star studded field featuring the Olympic champion and world record holder, David Rudisha from Kenya, Olympic silver medallist Nijel Amos from Botswana and European Championships gold medallist Adam Kszczot from Poland, Kyle came with a storming finish to smash his previous best of 1:47.41. Before these games, Kyle competed at the prestigious Diamond League meeting last month, recording a season’s best. For more on this read the next edition of My Garston News out on August 14.
