A 26-year-old flight attendant is fulfilling her dream of competing to represent Great Britain at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant.
Archna Bhatt grew up in Garston and is going into the competition with the aim to win it.
Speaking to GarstonNews, she said she wants to show women there is nothing stopping people from achieving what they want to.
She added: “I am excited. I have always wanted to do it since I was a little girl – it has been a dream since then.
“I would love to win the competition, but no matter what, I want to use it to launch a platform to inspire, motivate and empower women.”
As a teenager, Archna battled with anxiety which prevented her from going into university when she was supposed to and often led her to avoid social situations.
She said: “I struggled a lot when I was growing up and soon realised there was nothing to help and guide women in a similar position to me.
“I want that to change and want to use the platform to spread the message that being yourself and being brave is key. A lot of people, including myself, are afraid of getting out of their comfort zone but it is important to be brave and make that step.”
In the run up to the competition, Archna has fundraised for A Sisterhood – an organisation which support the advancement of women worldwide.
In her fundraising efforts, Archna held a dinner party which raised over £2,000 and walked up Hollywood Hills to see the American landmark.
Archna is due to take part in the competition in Cardiff on July 11 to 13.
