An award-winning children’s author from Radlett has released her newest picture book.

All of the proceeds from Bertie and the Garden of Wonders by Mandy Woolf will be donated to Maggie’s Royal Free cancer support centre, where Mandy’s father spent the last moments of his life following a diagnosis of cancer a decade earlier.

The mother-of-five said: “This book stands as a testament to [my father’s] indomitable spirit and the love he instilled in us all.

“In the twilight of his journey, as he faced the challenges of a neuroendocrine tumour, we found solace in the art of storytelling. It was our shared passion that led to the creation of Bertie and the Garden of Wonders.”

All of Mandy’s work is aimed at helping young children navigate complex experiences. Her picture books have won a litany of awards including the Clara J. Johns Literary Award and the Mom’s Choice Gold Award.

All of Mandy’s books come labelled with an icon pointing parents towards the emotions explored within. In this way, Mandy explained, parents can tailor their purchases towards themes that young readers are learning to navigate, such as anxiety and self-confidence.

Published on June 7, Bertie and the Garden of Wonders tackles the topics of loneliness, self-discovery and friendliness.
