FUTURE FOCUSED: Croxley school lowers admission places to ‘ensure stability for families’

Published on: 20th October 2025   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Croxley school has revealed it could be offering fewer admission places from 2027.

In response to demographic changes, Malvern Way Infant School – whose pupils often move on to Little Green Junior School – reduced its Published Admission Number (PAN) two years ago. PAN sets out the number of pupils a school admits each year.

Now, Little Green Junior School has announced it is aligning with this change and applied to Hertfordshire County Council to reduce its PAN. The council will carry out a consultation in the next few terms before making a decision.

Little Green shared that the adjustment to its entry numbers “reflects the wider population trends in Croxley rather than the popularity of our schools”.

Typically, three forms from Malvern Way progress to Little Green. However, as Malvern Way has reduced its PAN, Little Green has applied to welcome two forms from September 2027.

Headteacher Duncan Roberts told CROXLEYnews: “We will continue to review demographic projections carefully. Should numbers rise again in future years, there remains flexibility to increase capacity.

“By planning now, we ensure stability for families, wise use of public funds, and the continued delivery of high-quality education.”

Despite the PAN reduction, the school continues to excel academically. In 2025, 84 per cent of pupils achieved well above the expected standard in Reading and Maths and 82 per cent in Writing. Almost half of pupils also progressed to selective schools such as Watford’s grammar schools.

Duncan added: “This combination of forward planning, academic strength, and inclusive ethos ensures that every child at Little Green flourishes – well prepared not just for exams, but for life in a diverse and shared world.”
