A couple from Chorleywood are set to be one of the thousands of people taking part in the London Marathon in October, with them raising money for the charity Cure Parkinson’s.
Emily Higgins and Archie Thomas are taking part in the race in memory of Emily’s grandfather, Mike, who sadly passed away in 2018 after having lived with Parkinson’s disease.
Speaking about the upcoming run, Emily said: “Since my Grandpa passed away in 2018, I have wanted to raise money for Cure Parkinson’s so they can find a cure for Parkinson’s.
“I witnessed first-hand how devastating it is to watch your loved one deteriorate very quickly in front of you.
“We are both feeling ready to tackle the marathon now, but as training is becoming tougher we just want to get it done.
“This is my third marathon, so I think Archie is pleased to be running his first marathon with me so we can conquer it together!
“We have found some weeks a lot harder than others, mainly the more recent weeks, as the long runs are increasing in distance and require a lot of mental determination to get up and go.”
The couple have been preparing famous and tough 26.2-mile run using the London Marathon’s intermediate training plan, with Emily helping Archie get ready for the race with her prior experience.
