An event is set to take place in Hemel Hempstead to collect food for local food bank The Trussell Trust.
Simon Higgs is organising the event – which will be hosted next to the Boxted Farm, Berkhamsted Rd, on August 29 – with the help of resident Kevin Ramsbottom.
Simon had the idea after seeing a post on Facebook explaining how children are missing out on their daily free school meal and how, due to COVID19, certain families are struggling to bring food on the table.
People don’t have to pay for a ticket, the only entry fee is to bring a food item which will be donated to the food bank directly on site.
Simon, speaking to HemelNews said: “People sometime feel uncomfortable donating cash and this way they know for sure what they donate is going to the right place.
“This has been organised to collect as much food donations as possible and for everyone to have a good time.
“Families who can’t afford a day out, can also use this as an opportunity to spend a nice day out with their kids.”
The event will also have sumo wrestling, a bungee run, bouncy castles, stalls, music, competition between car groups and many beautiful cars showcased.
Kevin said donating food is a needed service now.
He said: “We know of people who rely on this service, and without the support of local people it doesn’t function.
“We’ve seen on the news the demand on food banks, people have been struggling and we know people who are in need of this service, we thought to do something about it.”
