FUN DAY: Chalfont St Giles residents enjoy street party event

Published on: 8th September 2021   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

Sunday September 5 was a much-awaited date in the calendar of Chalfont St Giles (CSG) village as the community was able to have its yearly village event.

Residents had a blast, and they were glad celebrations went ahead this year after the event had to be cancelled last year due to COVID-19.

The village Show Committee decided that instead of the usual country and horticultural show taking place in CSG’s meadows – set to return in 2022 – there would instead be a street party.

Peter Scott from the show committee spoke to ChalfontsNews and said: “Being able to celebrate getting back together, meeting neighbours and old friends was a real treat, and a fabulous day was had by all.

“The smaller and more intimate event would allow us to bring together our community for a day of fun and local music, without scaling to the usual many thousands of people who turn up to our larger show.”

The street party had over 100 tables pre booked online, along with many people and families who came and went on the day.

Around a 1,000 people gathered around the village green, enjoying the sunshine, food, drink and company.

Some of the attractions on the day included: live music and entertainment all afternoon including a choir, dancers, country band, solo artists and ending with a pop/rock band. Food and beverage stalls, children’s rides and a face painter were also very popular.

There was even an ambulance from SCAS onsite for children to look around and learn basic lifesaving skills.

Peter continued: “The day was incredibly well attended, and the gorgeous sunny skies rounded it off. The committee were also very happy to be able to offer tables to groups that have done so much to support the village over the last few years and most specifically throughout the pandemic. It just goes to show what a local community of volunteers and local sponsors can achieve together.

“A number of village organisations and businesses sponsored the event to help make it a success including our lead sponsor b2 Chalfont Clinic. Other top sponsors were Yalden DIY & Garden, Buckinghamshire Building Society, The Merlins Cave PH, The Feathers PH and BWK Solicitors.

“Our new Liberal Democrat MP, Sarah Green attended the street party too. It was much appreciated by everyone that she took the time out on a Sunday to attend the main local event for Chalfont St Giles.”

Local village charities receive donations from the Chalfont St Giles Show/Street Party via an application from event profits.
