FROZEN TREATS: Community sharing fridge now open all to residents

Published on: 5th December 2021   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A community fridge has been opened up the non-profit All Together Community in Chalfont St Giles.

Based in Blizzard’s Yard car park just off the village’s High Street, it’s open from 10am to 12pm every Wednesday and Saturday, storing surplus food from supermarkets and people who donate.

Anybody in the village is entitled to take and share what they need or like from the fridge.

Plans for the venture were first approved by Buckinghamshire County Council in April.

Louise Chamberlain, who has been involved in the setting up of this project, said: “Our main aim is to reduce food waste and the amount going to landfill.

“In the 10 weeks since opening we have distributed almost 2 tonnes of food; we are so proud of this and the difference it’s having on our environment.”

“As well as making a difference environmentally, the fridge is becoming a community hub.

“We have over 25 amazing volunteers who collect food and man the fridge and people using the fridge are really enjoying meeting up, chatting and having a chance to socialise, reducing isolation and loneliness.”
